Thank you so much for your support last month! Thanks to you, we were able to hit our grassroots donor goal and put ourselves on track to hold the House in 2022.
Now, I wanted to share a bit more about myself. I was born and raised in Dallas, by a single mom who was a public school teacher. It wasn’t always easy, but thanks to teachers, coaches, and good folks at the YMCA I was able to live my version of the American Dream.
I got a full ride to play college football at Baylor and went on to play 5 seasons as a linebacker for the Tennessee Titans. From there I went to law school to be a civil rights attorney and helped defend people’s voting rights in my home of Texas and across the country.
I wish every lawmaker had to play team sports before running for office because there are so many similarities between sports and legislating. Both require tackling challenges head on, working together to achieve a common goal, and holding one another accountable when things don’t work. If a play fails, you review the footage and everyone agrees on what went wrong.
But right now, partisan politics are getting in the way of getting things done in Congress. It’s keeping us from agreeing on what the problem is AND what the solution is. Which is why the work that Future Forum Democrats are doing is so critical:
We are avoiding the hyper-partisan division and reaching out directly to younger Americans to about what’s important to them. And last month, we created task forces to elevate the issues of climate change, healthcare, college affordability, and immigration -- so that meaningful progress can be made on these issues for the next generation.
Under President Biden, we’ve already elevated the student debt crisis and climate change to the top of our country’s priority list. And we plan to continue pushing for real, long-lasting solutions to these issues.
Your support in this work gets us closer to achieving our goals of a progressive and responsive Congress that represents the REAL interests of everyday Americans. This especially true for younger generations, who have long been shut out of the decision-making process.
