Did you know that Wall Street spent more than $4 million a day on lobbying and influencing members of Congress in the 2020 election cycle? While millions of working families are struggling to make ends meet, the financial industry spent millions of dollars a day in our last election to influence Congress.
This isn’t what politics should be about, John. But the unfortunate truth is that so much of it is. That’s why organizations like Truth to Power exist, because we believe in taking back some of this power and putting it back with the grassroots and doing things the right way.
The good news is that our way of thinking around how politics should be is not only popular, but it’s also a winning one. In 2020, Truth to Power was able to send six progressive endorsees to Washington to serve their first terms in Congress. 100% of our endorsees won their primary elections, and all of them did it without taking a single cent from dark money lobbyists.
However, the political establishment—from Big Pharma to Wall Street—is taking notice, and they’re making plans to stop our momentum in the 2022 midterms and other important elections between now and then. And unless we continue to organize and fight back, there’s a good chance that they’ll succeed.
