The main thing Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis have in common? They're both trying to suppress Black and Brown votes in a battleground state to keep Republicans in power.
DeSantis just signed a massive voter suppression bill that would restrict mail-in-voting in a state where 44% of votes cast in 2020 were cast by mail -- as well as ban organizers from handing water to voters waiting in line to cast their ballots.
Trump narrowly carried Florida in 2020, “but the Democratic advantage in absentee voting prompted worry among Republicans who once had the upper hand in voting by mail,” according to HuffPost.
Our organizing efforts were making progress in Trump's favorite state. Now, the GOP is working to make sure Democrats never flip Florida blue.
That's not an option, team. A special election in Florida this year could determine our House majority. And we have a chance to protect our Senate majority by defeating Senate insurrectionist Marco Rubio in Florida this cycle.
Progressive groups like Stacey Abrams's Fair Fight are already fighting DeSantis's efforts, but we need to do our part and support the Democrats who are working to protect our democracy. And then? We're going to flip this wannabe authoritarian's seat.
