When We all Vote [[link removed]]
John,
Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you are getting a chance to spend some time with your loved ones today. Because whether you are a mom, a mother figure, a grandmother, an aunt -- or you’re celebrating one of these incredible people in your life -- today is a day to pause and reflect upon the extraordinary impact that mothers can have on our lives.
If you’re a mother or mother-figure to a young person, I hope you take a moment to relax today. Because we’ve got a lot of work left to do.
As parents, it’s our responsibility to teach our children what it means to be civically engaged -- from voting to volunteering in our communities. Talking to your kids about why their voices matter, how our government works, and the ways they can make a difference is one of the most important things we can do to create a future that works for all of us.
I know that starting these conversations can be challenging. It’s hard to know where to begin. But right now, our country is facing one of the largest coordinated attacks on voting rights we’ve seen in a long time. Forty-seven state legislatures are pushing voter suppression bills -- and in some states like Georgia and Florida these destructive bills have become law, and more are on their way. These bills will make it harder for so many of us to vote: Black and Brown people, young people, and those with disabilities.
So it’s more important than ever that we get educated, get engaged, get organized, and get everyone we know to join together and say, with one voice, that we should be making it easier, not harder, to vote. It’s really that simple.
I want you to know that When We All Vote is here to help. I hope you’ll sign up today to get information on teaching your kids about this moment, civic engagement, why voting and participating in our democracy is important, and our My School Votes program. [[link removed]]
We hope these resources are helpful. Because we know that moms are so often the glue that holds together our families and communities. That’s why I’m so thrilled you are on this journey with us. Together, we can lift up our children and all of our young people. We can help them see how their actions -- their voices -- can build a better future for us all.
Thanks for being a part of our team -- and again, Happy Mother’s Day!
