[1]Ro Khanna
Growing up, much of my life centered on public transit. Whether going to
school or the grocery store, getting there was often a challenge because
of transit deserts without enough routes or nearby stops, not enough buses
or trains, and fares too high for families – like mine – trying to make
ends meet day after day.
My own experiences have informed my understanding of just how important
accessible and affordable transit is for working Americans, especially in
communities of color.
That’s why I’ve sponsored the Freedom to Move Act in the U.S. House, which
provides $5 billion for safe, high-quality, and fare-free public
transportation to ensure everyone in our communities can access jobs,
food, and essential services.

nationwide to get it done. Will you join Ro Khanna, the National Campaign
for Transit Justice, and our partners in support of the Freedom to Move
Act to make public transit equitable, sustainable, and affordable now?

Public transportation is an essential public good. The people who stock
our groceries, clean our schools, and staff our hospitals rely on buses
and trains to get to work, yet far too many across the country lack
reliable, safe, and affordable public transit.
We’ve counted on essential workers to get us through this pandemic, and
essential workers count on public transportation.
But the freedom to move isn’t just about providing fare-free public
transportation, it’s also about racial equity and eliminating fare
enforcement, which has disproportionately targeted Black transit riders.
[ [link removed] ]For far too long, our nation's transportation policies have perpetuated
many of our most entrenched inequities, targeting our most vulnerable
communities, and criminalizing Black and brown Americans. Help me build
the grassroots support needed to win by adding your name immediately »
As our nation continues to recover from this public health and economic
crisis, it is critical we legislate boldly and intentionally to improve
community livability and mobility, increase connectivity to critical
services – particularly for low-income workers and families, seniors and
individuals with disabilities – and address persistent inequities.
I’m honored to have a chance to lead the fight for transit justice in the
U.S. House and I’m grateful for your support today. Together, we’ll give
everyone in America the freedom to move!
In solidarity,
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley
Representative, U.S. House
