My mom, Jerri-Ann, is one of the most amazing and hardest-working people I know. She grew up in Brooklyn, the third daughter of a Navy sailor and a taxi driver, and started college at Rutgers University where she was studying to be a veterinarian. But when her parents moved to San Diego for my grandpa’s job, my mom moved across the country with them. Working full-time, she took classes at Miramar College and eventually transferred to and graduated from San Diego State. She and my dad, who had just graduated from UCSD, were introduced through synagogue and have been together ever since.
It’s been a difficult year and the pandemic has prevented so many of us from being with all the amazing moms in our lives. This Mother’s Day, I’m so grateful that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I’m especially grateful that the vaccine has made it possible for me to spend today with my mom and grandma, and I’ve been so touched to see so many of you reuniting with your loved ones too.
For those who find this day difficult, please know I am holding you in my thoughts. May you find comfort, love, and support today and every day.
Warmly,
Sara
