Hello Somebody!

If you want to understand my politics and what I’m running for office to accomplish — you have to understand that it comes from my faith, and that my faith comes from my Mama.

My mother was a preacher, which means my siblings and I had to go to Church. We couldn’t do any other thing in my Mama’s house unless you went to Church.

And while I might not have enjoyed spending what felt like 8 days a week in Church growing up, I guess it stuck, because the Black Church is so much a part of who I am that I couldn’t shake it, even if I wanted to.

My life’s journey informs my love for people, and I don’t believe that you can serve that which you do not love. You might be able to fake it for a while, but you truly can’t serve people if you don’t love them, and if you don’t have compassion and empathy for what they are going through.

Compassion is one of the things I remember and cherish most about my Mama. She was a nurse’s aid and gave so much of herself to those in pain. Through struggle, through challenges and through some of the hardest times she demonstrated so much love for our family and our community. I lost my mom when she was just 42 and saw firsthand how many policies have no compassion for poor and working poor families.

My politics is built on that compassion and my courage to ask for more on behalf of the poor, working poor and barely middle class.

This Mother’s Day we are doubling down on our fight for policies that support hard working moms across Northeast Ohio. That means:

This campaign is grounded in the belief that together we can do extraordinary things and that our people-power will stand up and do what is right for ourselves and the generations to come.

With these hands,

Nina Turner 💜
