Hey John, this Mother’s Day, I want to tell you a little bit about my mom, Debra:
My mom is everything to me; John.
She raised me and my siblings alone in public housing, oftentimes on minimum wage -- looking back on it now, I really don’t know how she did it. But the example she modeled for me during those years drives everything I do now.
When I won on Election Night, I called my mom to thank her. I thanked her for her unconditional love and support in my life. She was there for me as a child. She was there for me when I came out as a gay man. She will always be there for me.
This country is full of mothers just like mine. Working hard every day to create a better future for their families -- one where a kid from public housing can grow up and represent his hometown in Congress.
So to all the mothers in our lives -- thank you, and Happy Mother’s Day.
And to you, John -- I hope you’re able to take a moment to celebrate whoever you consider “Mom” in this world.
Happy Mother’s Day,
-- Ritchie
