Good morning and Happy Mother’s Day, John!
Today, as I celebrate the day with my daughters, I’m thinking about the future and how my children and their generation will help shape it.
Giving children the opportunity to succeed is why I am devoted to tirelessly advocating for our nation’s students from the day they enter school to the day they graduate.
While serving in Congress, I introduced bipartisan legislation to allow the early childhood Head Start programs to receive federal work-study dollars. I also co-sponsored legislation to encourage more women and minority students to enter STEM fields.
We all know what high-quality education can do to the lives of students. You can hear it in the voices of children like my daughters as they describe what new, magical things they learned in the classroom.
As long as I am serving in Congress, I will continue to fight for educational opportunities for all, no matter where they live.
In addition to ensuring our children are getting the best possible education, we also need to make sure that the earth they inherit is healthy.
That’s why I am also committed to protecting natural resources for our children and generations to come by investing in alternative and renewable energy sources and decreasing air and water pollution.
In my time as Congresswoman of VA-07, I’ve led many roundtables and panels with Central Virginia conservationists and farmers to discuss how we can work together to improve our region’s conservation practices. For our children to enjoy our beautiful district for generations to come, we need to find climate solutions collaboratively.
Our children are the future. And I believe if we give them the right tools to succeed, the future will be brighter than ever.
I hope that you all enjoy this Mother’s Day.
With appreciation,
Abigail Spanberger
