Hello,
This Mother's Day I want to take a moment to talk about how important my mother Dawn has been in my life. I have always been grateful that my sister Alyssa and I have had her love and support throughout our lives.
Running for Congress would have been ten times more difficult without her support. She's always been one of my top supporters, whether that's being in the front row cheering me on during debates, making thousands of homemade buttons for our supporters, or being my biggest advocate on the campaign trail.
Today we celebrate mothers like mine across the country who put in the hard work every day to raise us.
Mothers sacrifice so much to raise their children, taking on millions of dollars worth of unpaid labor, but they shouldn't have to. The pandemic has only made these divides worse.
It's up to us to pass legislation that creates a safety net for mothers and supports women in and outside of the workplace with programs to provide childcare and paid leave. That's why I was proud to join my colleagues in passing the Paycheck Fairness Act to end the gender pay gap and strengthen workplace protections and passing the American Rescue plan to expand the child tax credit. This provided needed relief to New Hampshire families and will reduce our child poverty rate by an estimated 39%.
We all have work to do to celebrate moms everywhere -- not just on Mother's Day -- but every day.
Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy Mother's Day,
Chris
