Team -- The opportunity to represent the Third District is one of the greatest honors of my life, but the job I’m most proud of is being a mom.
Each day, I wake up grateful for the example my mom, Linda, set for me and for the opportunity to be the best mother possible to Grace and Caroline and step mother to Thomas, Dean, and Christian. I saw firsthand how hard my mom worked in her jobs to support my three sisters and me, and I often think about her when I’m working on policies designed to help families like the one I grew up in.
This Mother’s Day, I want to celebrate the mothers across the Commonwealth who have been working overtime making sure their families and communities are taken care of, especially during this pandemic.
I know that a mom’s work doesn’t stop when her shift is over, when she wraps up her last call of the day, when her kids complete their virtual schoolwork, or even when the kids are in bed. Moms are always on the move -- dreaming, planning, organizing, and building to achieve the goals they want for themselves and for their families. And it’s more important now than ever before that we take a hard look at how we set up moms up for success.
Equal pay, affordable health care, ensuring safe pregnancies in the workplace, job protections and paid family leave, addressing how our health care system disproportionately harms Black and Brown mothers, and much more.
These are just some of the aspects of motherhood I'm focused on in Congress, and I pledge to continue working day in and day out to ensure our nation isn’t just one that says “Happy Mother’s Day” one day a year -- but one that has the policies and protections in place to support moms year round.
Happy Mother’s Day today and every day,
— Linda’s daughter (Lori)
