John,

This Mother's Day, I wanted to make sure you knew the impact that supporters like you are making for mothers and families around the world.

This story — about a resilient mother named Khadija in Yemen — highlights the incredible difference you’re making for mothers and their families in some of the toughest places on earth.

Khadija is a mother of six children living in a displacement camp in Yemen. Like many other families in Yemen, they were forced to flee their home due to the ongoing conflict and seek refuge in a rural area, away from the violence and fighting.

Last year, when Khadija was pregnant with her youngest child, Raghda, she found herself filled with worry. Living in a rural part of the country with limited access to health care, she knew she and her baby could face serious risks during childbirth. She had lost a baby once before.

Khadija was deeply relieved when she discovered that IRC mobile health clinics were driving out to where she was, providing care for pregnant women. Before her due date, Dr. Nabila, an IRC community midwife, spent time with Khadija and provided her with prenatal care.

With Dr. Nabila's help, Khadija welcomed her daughter Raghda into the world. Khadija felt calm knowing she wasn't alone and she felt safe knowing that she was receiving the care she needed for herself and her newborn.

"I named my youngest daughter Raghda. Her name means happy life." — Khadija

John, with the support of dedicated community members like you, IRC midwives and doctors are able to reach mothers like Khadija with essential health care. Every day, IRC's mobile medical clinics provide care for pregnant women, follow-up care for new mothers and their babies, nutrition assistance for malnourished children, and other primary care services.

Throughout the pandemic, our mobile clinics in Yemen and other places have also worked to prevent the spread of COVID-19, making sure that families know how to protect themselves from the virus and where to seek help if they fall ill.

You truly make our work possible, John. Thank you.
