Dear John,

Today is Mother’s Day, a day where we take the time to thank and celebrate mothers, grandmothers and the mother figures in our lives.

These are special people who have inspired us and helped to shape our worldview. For many of us, they helped us appreciate the importance of protecting and caring for other people and the planet we all call home.

As we celebrate a second Mother's Day during the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to share this blogpost by Amanda Leland, EDF’s Executive Vice President of Programs.

Amanda talks about her own personal story of what being a mom to young kids has been like during the pandemic and provides some inspiring tips on ways we can all celebrate with our families by getting outdoors and enjoying what nature has to offer.

As Amanda mentions in her blog:

Mothers have always been ferocious protectors of their families. We have a fierce desire for a better world for our children. And that means we have to be fierce in protecting the planet from the existential threat of climate change for the sake of our children.

So thank you to all of the mothers, grandmothers and mother figures, who already have so much on their plate, yet continue to impart the importance of protecting our communities and the environment — today, and for generations to come.

And in appreciation of these inspiring and caring forces in our lives, we remain as committed as ever to stay engaged in the quest for a safer, healthier and more vibrant future.

Thank you for all you do,

Sam Parry
