Hello there,

As a mother, you never stop worrying about your children. As they grow older, you wonder who they will become and if they will carry the lessons you've taught them as they navigate their lives.

While Andy and his sister watched me work the night shift as a nurse in New Jersey, they learned the value of service -- especially for people in their most vulnerable moments. Earlier this year, you may have seen a photo of Andy on his hands and knees cleaning up debris left behind by Capitol rioters in the rotunda. Andy didn't stop to clean the mess for an audience -- he did it because he understands the value of service to others.

It brings me pride that the value of service I worked to instill in my son continues to guide him today, and it's been a joy to watch Andy and his wife Kammy pass this same love and admiration for our country on to their own children.

I grew up as the child of a single mother in a poor farm family. Immigrating to the US wasn't easy, and the life that I built for my family required sacrifice. But sacrifice is something that mothers know all too well. As we finally round the corner on this pandemic, I know many mothers are struggling with balancing multiple responsibilities -- juggling the roles of caregiver, teacher, and parent all at once.

That's why this Mother's Day is so important. After such a difficult year for so many mothers, this is the time to reflect on the sacrifices that mothers across the country have had to make throughout the pandemic. And if you're able and willing to take the time today, call your mom or mother figure to let her know you're thinking about her.

To all the mothers -- I commend you for your strength and resilience. Happy Mother's Day!

Sincerely,
Jae Kim (Andy's mom)
