John,
The First Amendment is a hallmark of our democracy and not a right to be taken lightly or used frivolously.
When the decision is made to limit speech, whether temporarily or permanently, it should be done responsibly. Earlier this week, the Facebook Oversight Board announced its decision to uphold Trump's ban from Facebook and Instagram.
While it's rare for social media companies to take drastic measures like banning notable public figures, in this case, it was absolutely necessary.
The inflamed rhetoric that started at the fingers of Donald Trump himself, spread like wildfire across this nation and took hold in every part of our society.
We all had a front row seat when the division came to a boiling point on January 6, and it's in the best interest and safety of the American people that mainstream social media platforms are kept out of the hands of Donald Trump.
The most important thing to note is, this isn't the end of it. We will surely feel the effects of Donald Trump's words for years to come.
Our fight against hate continues. The insurrection on January 6 was the tip of the iceberg and we need to take action to ensure it doesn't happen again.
