John -

Dan Crenshaw here.

This week, I continued on my road to recovery after emergency eye surgery. A lot of people who follow me think I’ve always had one “good eye.” But that’s not true.

After my injury in Afghanistan, I had to lay face down for 6 weeks so a hole in my retina would heal. I really didn’t think I’d be reliving that 9 years later, but sometimes life throws you a curveball.

I don’t feel any self-pity. Long ago I made peace with the idea that I might go blind someday. I raised my hand and asked to go to war, and I knew the risks of serving the country I love in combat. I wouldn’t change a single thing about my experience, even now.

It is terrifying for someone with one eye to go through this, but it can always be worse. That's what perspective is. America needs a lot more of that these days. It could always be worse, and you could always deal with it better. That's an important reminder when going through tough times.

Lucky for me, God has given me the gift of sight once again, and my retina looks to be on track to make a good recovery. The overwhelming prayers and support have certainly helped - Tara and I appreciate them more than you know.

I will be back with y’all soon, fighting to protect the greatest country on earth.

Thank you. God bless you. God Bless America.
