You’ve heard a lot about the For the People Act (S. 1) this year, and exactly how vital it is that we pass it. With the count of voter suppression bills introduced in state legislatures now up to 361 bills in 47 states, we’re feeling the pressure to make sure everyone knows the danger our democracy and our elections are in.
That’s where you come in. Our democracy coalition partners are collecting stories from activists just like you, to show the world how important the For the People Act is to every single one of us. It’s important to continue the pressure on Senators by signing petitions, making calls, and more, but a personalized video about how this legislation would impact you can be an incredibly powerful advocacy tool.
We’re asking volunteers to talk specifically about the parts of the bill that you think will have the most immediate impact on your life. Some sample questions include:
- What does “the freedom to vote” mean to you?
- How would our political system improve if billionaires could no longer buy elections?
- What would our country look like if we got Big Money out of politics?
- What could we accomplish if everyone had a say in our democracy?
But if those questions don’t quite work for you, you can tell whatever story you think would suit you best that explains why the For the People Act is so important!
The For the People Act is about more than just securing our voting rights – it will limit the influence of Big Money in politics and put elections back in the hands of the people, eliminate partisan gerrymandering, and hold all government officials to strict ethical standards. This bill will help move our democracy closer to the vision for what we have always wanted it to be.
