Friend --

Even though he leads a battleground state, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will do anything to appease his far-right base. Now he's going after Big Tech.

Conservatives have complained for years that they're being silenced on social media. They claim that they're being “deplatformed” by sites like Facebook and Twitter because of their political views.

We know that couldn't be further from the truth, though. Right-wing misinformation and conspiracy theories are allowed to run wild on social media. In the few instances where conservatives have been banned from a site, the offender has always displayed a clear pattern of outright lying or inciting violence.

But DeSantis is trying to get even with Big Tech by imposing fines on social media companies who ban any candidates for office in Florida. If he succeeds in bullying these companies into compliance, that means that there will be no end to the likes of Matt Gaetz, Marco Rubio, and DeSantis himself spreading lies and conspiracy theories.

Fortunately, Gov. DeSantis is up for reelection in 2022. We need to make sure his eventual Democratic opponent is well-resourced enough to kick him out for good.
