Team, the Hyde Amendment’s days are numbered.
Last week, Ayanna, Barbara Lee, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took a few minutes to break down the history of the Hyde Amendment and why it must be repealed.
Passed in 1976, the draconian amendment prohibits federal funds from being spent on abortion care — effectively denying the millions of Americans who rely on Medicaid access to critical reproductive health care.
Access to abortion is a social justice issue. We know that the Hyde Amendment disproportionately impacts women in communities of color, and Ayanna will continue to advocate and legislate to repeal Hyde and ensure that abortion is treated as health care and is accessible to all.
Hyde has been the law of the land for more than 40 years. Repealing it will require unprecedented organizing, mobilizing, and legislating in defense of every woman’s right to reproductive care.
Thank you for being a part of our movement to guarantee health care access and reproductive justice for every single person in our country.
In Solidarity,
The A-Team
