In just 31 days, voters across Virginia will head to the polls for several critical primary elections.

DFA has currently endorsed 3 candidates statewide and each one of them will work tirelessly for the communities they serve.

Jennifer Caroll Foy, running for Governor, was born and raised in Virginia and is no stranger to the challenges that Commonwealth families face. She is an unrelenting champion for progressive values and used her time in the state legislature to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, defend reproductive justice, and fight for criminal justice reforms.

Sam Rasoul, running for Lt. Governor, is the son of immigrant parents, raised in Roanoke, and is currently in his seventh year serving as a member of the House of Delegates. Sam’s work in the General Assembly includes pushing to lower health care costs, fighting for intersectional justice through a Green New Deal, and taking on corruption in government by limiting the influence of special interests.

Jay Jones, running for Attorney General, is a lifelong resident of Virginia and currently serves as a member of the House of Delegates. Jay has fought to expand access to Medicaid, pushed for climate-focused environmental regulations, and led the fight to end qualified immunity for law enforcement officers, end capital punishment, and create a Civil Rights Division in the Office of the Attorney General.

With just one month until these crucial primaries, the clock is ticking in the fight to Get Out The Vote but how much we can do for these candidates really does depend on you. In March of 2013, DFA made a decision to make what was dubbed an overwhelmingly ‘red’ state, Virginia, the focus of our multi-year, multi-state, multi-million dollar Purple to Blue campaign to flip Governors, State Houses, and State Senate Chambers across the country by the end of 2020.

Then in 2019, six years after our work in Virginia began, after dozens of endorsement victories and some losses, and over the course of three election cycles, Democrats controlled all statewide offices and both chambers of Virginia's General Assembly. That work paid off and Virginia is still blue today.
