John,
This Saturday, May 8th, is the "John Lewis National Day of Action." People all across the country will take to the streets with more than 100 "Votercades" in more than 100 cities. We are mobilizing grassroots support for Congress to pass the For the People Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and DC Statehood.
As Rep. John Lewis said, "Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."

We are fighting to demand preservation and expansion of voting rights and to ensure people who live in Washington, DC finally get the representation in our democracy that they deserve through statehood.
700,000 people live in DC, which is majority-Black and brown. They have lived under a completely different set of rules than state residents in the United States. Rules that say: you don't get to participate in our democracy. You don't get to have a representative and senators to vote on legislation that will set the course for future generations. You don't get to decide if an unhinged President should be impeached.
These rules have silenced hundreds of thousands of people living in our nation's capital for far too long.
We must also defend voting rights in the rest of the country. Following the record breaking Black, brown and youth voter turnout in the Georgia Senate Runoff election in January, state legislatures across the U.S. released an offensive onslaught of undemocratic legislation designed to specifically suppress the vote of communities of color. That is unacceptable. We are fighting for federal legislation to prevent states from perpetuating Donald Trump's "BIG LIE" as an excuse to roll back voting rights of marginalized communities.
Only by joining together can we ensure that lawmakers will do the right thing: fight to protect civil rights and defend our democracy.

Thank you for fighting for a democracy that includes all of us.
