The leading voice for the 48 million American women living with or at risk of heart disease
Updated Red WomenHeart Banner

It's May and we are showing our love for our mothers by raising awareness about heart disease in women. Sharing real-life stories about heart disease is critical because while heart disease continues to be the #1 killer of women - less than 50% recognize it as their greatest health threat.

"I sat in my car sobbing. I had driven myself to the hospital, but I hadn't thought to ask if it was okay to drive myself home. I needed to talk to someone, so I called my sister. Our father had died one year ago. He had multiple health challenges including heart failure. My sister didn't know what to say to me, so she started looking up 'heart failure' online. She discovered a group of women living with heart disease who met monthly at the hospital where I was parked and shared the information about WomenHeart.'

This heart story is far too common among women. Even after diagnosis, women often feel isolated and overwhelmed by fear and the dramatic changes to their lives.

This month, we are celebrating mothers and sharing stories of WomenHeart Champions who are thrivers so that more women are aware about their risk for heart disease, are able to recognize the symptoms and know when to get treatment and support.
