Ellina, a Project HOPE field worker in Malawi, wrote to you earlier this week about Rose, a single mom whose child was dying of tuberculosis (TB). Ellina also asked you to make a gift to help raise $10,000 in honor of moms, grandmothers and maternal figures everywhere for Mother's Day.

Rose would do anything for her children, Catherine and Evance. When Evance could no longer walk, she strapped the 10-year-old on her back and traveled on foot 10 miles to the nearest hospital.

Rose and her kids are HIV-positive. Thanks to your support, Project HOPE provides access to the antiretroviral treatments that keep their viral loads low. And fortunately Evance received lifesaving treatment in time, but follow-up care was essential -- and that's where Ellina came in to care for the family and get them the support they needed to survive. She checked in every week while Evance was recovering, making sure he was doing well -- and helping the whole family get monitored regularly.

Having Ellina come visit us gives me comfort, especially when Evance was sick," Rose says. "She gave me support when I needed it."
