In the dark of night last night, Republicans in the Texas House passed one
of the most restrictive voter suppression laws yet.
The New York Times reports the law will make Texas "one of the most
difficult states in the nation in which to cast a ballot."
We're organizing nationally and in West Virginia to put in place robust
federal democracy protections by passing the For The People Act.
[ [link removed] ]SIGN ON HERE: I support passing the For The People Act -- a federal law
that will override racist state voter suppression laws and protect our
democracy. We're keeping our allies in Congress informed as tens of
thousands more people sign.
The "For the People Act" is a sweeping package to ensure our freedom to
vote, get big money out of politics, guarantee that congressional
districts are drawn to give fair representation for all, and to realize
the promise of our democracy.
It will modernize our voting system and dismantle barriers erected to keep
Black, Indigenous, young, and new Americans from voting.
For democracy to work for all Americans, it must include all Americans.
Together we can realize a democracy that represents, reflects, and
responds to all of us.
The vote in Texas came just one day after Florida's Republican governor
signed an extreme voter suppression law in that state. Iowa and Georgia
have also passed restrictive laws making it harder to vote.
And these are just the first states in the massive Republican push for
hundreds of voter suppression laws in nearly every state in the country.
It’s time for our Congress to pass and sign into law the For the People
Act to heal our country and build a more just, fair, and inclusive
democratic society.

federal law that will override racist state voter suppression laws and
protect our democracy.
