Friend --

Tomorrow is our General Membership Meeting! Be sure to pop in at 11AM. We'll be voting on two different endorsements - Denzel McCampbell for Detroit City Clerk, and the Detroit City Charter Revision.

We'll also be voting for our National Convention Delegates as well. DSA holds their National Convention every two years, and we'll be sending 16 delegates to the convention to vote on resolutions that will determine the direction and focus of National DSA for the next two years.

If you'd like to vote, be sure to join DSA so you don't miss this great opportunity to help decide our chapter's electoral work and how we're represented nationally!

Please check out the Detroit Socialist article written by Joanne Coutts, organizer on our Defund the Police campaign, about the recent conclusion of our Detroit city budget fight to defund the police and refund Detroit! Also, check out the infographics posted to our Instagram account that break down the defund/refund budget amendments proposed by District 6 Councilmember Raquel Castañeda-López.

Our Defund the Police campaign is now shifting focus to the Detroit city charter revision ballot initiative that Detroiters will vote on in August. A vote on an official chapter endorsement of this ballot initiative will be brought before membership at the General Meeting on May 8. Please read the detailed proposal HERE and attend the General Meeting to hear from organizers on the campaign about why our chapter should take up this fight!

Yo We Heard You Liked May Day

Last Saturday, we celebrated May Day at Hart Plaza with our comrades from Detroit Action and MAJIC, and we held a Virtual Town Hall with Michigan DSA. If you attended one or both of these events, or want to share your thoughts about our chapter continuing PRO Act work, please fill out our survey here. We're already looking ahead to planning May Day 2022 and want to do it even bigger and better - we owe it to all the workers who built our world!

Detroit DSA is a 1200+ member funded organization. We receive no money from outside sources so we can say things like "Defund the Police" and "Abolish ICE" without losing funding, and we will always act democratically in the interests of our members and the working class! If you're able to, we ask that you make monthly contributions as they more directly benefit our chapter. Thank you for whatever amount you're able to contribute!

If you're ready to stand up and fight for the working class, go here: dsausa.org/join and send your dues receipt to
[email protected] to get plugged in!
