John –

South Carolina's businesses need our support.

Right now, there's a labor shortage being created in large part by the
supplemental unemployment payments that the federal government provides
claimants on top of their state unemployment benefits.

In many instances, these payments are greater than the worker's previous
paychecks!

That's why I've made the important decision to end this federal subsidy that
is incentivizing able-bodied people to sit home versus returning to work.

With the number of new COVID-19 cases going down and more folks receiving
vaccinations, it's time to address the unprecedented labor shortage.

South Carolina's businesses have borne the brunt of the financial impact of
the COVID-19 pandemic. Our businesses have survived – both large and small,
including those in the hospitality, tourism, manufacturing, and healthcare
sectors. They now need our assistance to fill the gap in the labor shortage.

John, do you agree that South Carolina should end pandemic-related
unemployment benefits?

The pandemic-related unemployment benefits were intended to provide
short-term financial assistance for the vulnerable and displaced during the
height of the pandemic.

However, these additional benefits have turned into a dangerous federal
entitlement, incentivizing and paying workers to stay at home rather than
encouraging them to return to the workplace.

John, I hope you'll stand with me and our South Carolina businesses as we
continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's time to get back to normal!

Yours very truly,
