John — Mitch McConnell is using the same damaging playbook as 2010:
McConnell, 2010: “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”
McConnell, Wednesday: “100% of my focus is on stopping this new administration.”
This is political cynicism at its worst. We need to ensure the Grim Reaper of the Senate can’t add hundreds of progressive bills to his legislative graveyard with an archaic Senate filibuster.
The filibuster is not a healthy check and balance — it’s a roadblock to progress.
Please add your name to call for Senate Democrats to abolish the filibuster so we can continue to move our progressive agenda forward. [[link removed]]

John —
Just like Georgia, Florida’s new voting restrictions are a full-fledged attack on our democracy.
Republican Governor Ron DeSantis took a page straight out of Donald Trump’s playbook and signed a raft of discriminatory voter suppression bills with a sinister objective: Suppress the voices of Americans while fueling right-wing rage, in a cynical effort to rally the base for his own presidential aspirations.
It’s anti-democratic, and it’s wrong.
But that’s not all. DeSantis has legalized vehicular manslaughter (as long as it’s against protesters), banned transgender athletes from competing in high school sports, and mandated that Florida suspend all COVID restrictions — no matter what local governments or science have to say about it.
DeSantis knows these measures are hugely unpopular and dangerous, especially among Florida’s Black, Brown, and other minority communities. That’s why he’s poised to sign a voter suppression law to silence them.
In the light of day, Republican legislators are silencing people’s voices and making it harder to vote so they can keep power concentrated in the hands of the wealthiest few and right-wing special interests.
This cannot be allowed to stand.
If we are going to pass H.R. 1, the For the People Act , and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to preserve our democracy and protect the right to vote from continued Republican assault – then we must end the Senate filibuster.
Today I am asking you to sign my urgent petition calling for an end to the Senate filibuster so that Democrats can enact H.R. 1 and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to fight back against the cowardly Republican voter suppression efforts in Florida, Georgia, and across the country. This won’t be easy, but nobody has ever won an expansion of voting rights without a fight. It’s our turn to take action and protect this foundational right that so many have fought for throughout our history.
We must ensure the Senate, and Mitch McConnell, hear us loud and clear.
