Last week, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced a statewide ban on new fracking permits starting in 2024.

This is a great step forward and reminder that when communities organize, we can win.

But while California’s announcement is an important victory, it’s critical that we end the dirty practice of fracking nationwide. Ending fracking is absolutely necessary to solve the climate crisis.

While President Biden takes a victory lap following last month's Leaders Summit on Climate, we aren't going to let up the pressure — because he must go further. President Biden must follow the example set by California and put the health of our communities and climate above the profits of the oil and gas industry with a full fracking ban on federal lands. And then he needs to go further.

As more and more states fight back against this dangerous and dirty industry, we must keep the pressure building to end fracking nationwide. Will you write to President Biden today and demand he end fracking on public lands, including ending current leases?

Fracking is a reckless practice that threatens our health and safety while intensifying the climate crisis. In particular, fracking disproportionately harms Black, brown, and other communities of color and migrant workers.

Inaction on fracking could undermine Biden’s legacy on climate. Even though he’s spoken with conviction on the world stage about the moral imperative to tackle the climate crisis, he needs to find the courage to take more radical actions to protect our communities.

President Biden can end fracking on public lands today — but he won’t do it without massive grassroots pressure. That’s why we need to come together, as we have before, to show the strength of our growing movement for climate justice.

Write to President Biden today: Ban fracking on public lands nationwide. » [link removed]
