John: Five Republican Senators have already announced they will not run for re-election next year: Sens. Roy Blunt (Missouri), Richard Burr (North Carolina), Rob Portman (Ohio), Richard Shelby (Alabama), Pat Toomey (Pennsylvania). What do these five states have in common? Every single one has had a Democrat serve as Senator in the last ten years. Two have Democratic Senators today! This is a big deal: Democrats need to protect and expand our majority if we want to enact President Biden’s ambitious, hugely popular agenda. And these retirements mean Democrats can play offense—and win—in each of these purple states. We’re expecting lively, competitive primaries in these states. But we need to make sure the eventual nominees have every resource available to hit the ground running and flip these seats blue. That’s why, today, Off the Sidelines is launching our 2022 Senate Majority Fund: We’re raising $50,000 this month to support the eventual Democratic nominees in these five must-win, open-seat elections. Thank you for stepping up now to support this ambitious project. We couldn’t do it without you. -Stefanie Stefanie Conahan
