Support for Senate Majority Leader Schumer's Clean Transit for America Plan
On Tuesday morning, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer invited Peggy Shepard and other environmental leaders to speak at his press conference announcing the Clean Transit for America plan. Among the plan's improvements for public transit, it would provide funds for the MTA to purchase all-electric buses for its entire fleet. Before endorsing the plan, Peggy talked about WE ACT’s history of fighting the MTA to reduce emissions from its buses and depots – and winning. She also urged the Senator to find funding to replace the city’s dirty diesel school bus fleet with all-electric buses as well.
Rally to Phase Out Natural Gas
in New Construction in NYC
Did you know that emissions from natural gas cause more premature deaths in New York State than emissions from coal? Natural gas is a fossil fuel, and we need to phase it out to reduce harmful indoor air pollution and emissions that contribute to clime change. In addition to the statewide work we are doing on this front, we are also part of coalition that is pushing for legislation to phase out the use of natural gas in new construction here in New York City. Join us at 7:00 PM EDT on Tuesday, May 18 for an an online rally to show support for this legislation. RSVP

Help with Internet Access
The Federal Communications Commission has introduced Emergency Broadband Benefit, a temporary program to help households struggling to afford internet service during the pandemic. Visit fcc.gov/broadbandbenefit to see if you qualify and learn how to apply. Of course, if you are struggling with internet service, putting that sort of information online isn’t going to be of much help, so call 833-511-0311 for information on the program.
