Friend, what we heard yesterday from India was beyond devastating: In just 24 hours, 412,000 new cases and 4,000 deaths were confirmed.
The country’s health care system is severely overstrained by this crushing second coronavirus wave. Train cars and banquet halls are now emergency wards. Exams are on hold so trainee doctors and nurses can treat patients. And last week, one hospital was within 30 minutes of completely running out of oxygen before a new supply was delivered. |

So far, UNICEF has delivered 3,000 oxygen concentrators, diagnostic tests, PPE, medical kits and other equipment to critical care centers. But more urgent aid is needed to halt this deadly surge.
Your emergency gift could save the lives of health workers, families and communities in India >>
Friend, we’re also beginning to see how this COVID-19 wave is affecting other South Asian countries. Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and other countries in the region are reporting spikes in cases and fear a deadly surge like India’s.
Without urgent support, critical supplies and, ultimately, vaccines, COVID-19 cases will continue to spiral in the region. This puts us all at risk because no one is safe until everyone is safe.
Please, donate now to rush emergency aid and help UNICEF protect the most vulnerable communities in India.
Thank you,
The team at UNICEF USA
