Policy and Advocacy This week we are sharing several updates on items that we’ve mentioned in past weeks. - On the SNAP front, we now have details about the Emergency Allotment (EA) that will be coming to Pennsylvania SNAP households as a result of the settlement of CLS’ lawsuit against USDA. Not only will all households now get at least $95 in extra SNAP during the second half of each month, but households that had been denied EAs in the past will get back payment for the EAs they missed from Sept. 2020 -March 2021. You can see all the basic information on this flyer, as well as comprehensive details in CLS’ FAQs.
- Now onto WIC: As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, each year the Pennsylvania Department of Health evaluates its WIC plan and provides opportunity for public comment. Through our partnership with Just Harvest, we are hosting two additional webinars to help parents and guardians understand how they can submit comments to help improve PA WIC. The webinars will be the same, but we are offering them at two times to accommodate different schedules. Please spread the word! They can register by clicking on the date and time below that works better for their schedule:
Wednesday, May 19th at 3 pm – OR – Thursday, May 20th at 6:30 pm If you can't attend but want to submit a comment, please use this simple online form. We will compile submissions and get them into DOH. Please be sure to respond before the May 31 deadline! - Next, a chance to learn more about P-EBT. For now, please mark your calendars for May 26 at 7 pm, when we will co-hosting a webinar with Just Harvest. We'll talk about payment amounts for school-age kids, P-EBT for young children on SNAP, when to expect payments, and what to do if something goes wrong. We will share a registration link for this event next week.
- Lastly, a quick reminder that the deadline to file taxes is coming up on May 17th! This is VERY important for those who qualify for the expanded Child Tax Credit made possible by the American Rescue Plan. Please see this great flyer from Community Legal Services that covers the basics. FREE tax filing assistance is available from the Campaign for Working Families.
