As net-zero greenhouse gas emission targets become the new standard, many companies are turning to natural climate solutions (NCS) such as forest protection or reforestation to help reach their goals.

While such actions are critical to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, their use to offset corporate emissions is controversial, and a lack of clear standards for net-zero targets has made it difficult to distinguish legitimate climate action from greenwashing.
