Electric Transport Newsletter

Welcome to the relaunch of the Plug In Newsletter!? With the easing of lockdown restrictions and the numerous projects being developed and coming online we thought it was a good time to keep you regularly updated on electric transport news taking place across Nottingham.

As a reminder Nottingham is in the middle of a number of transformational transport programmes:

These include:

  • Transforming Cities -?Nottingham and Derby have received ?161m for transport improvements. This forms the second major phase of the Transforming Cities Fund, aimed at improving city centre connectivity, growth corridors, and the connectivity between Nottingham, Derby and East Midlands Airport.
  • Future Transport Zone - Nottingham and Derby are one of four new Future Transport Zone areas tasked with delivering new modes of transport. Having secured 16.7m we?ll be introducing new innovative mobility services, improving the integration of services and increasing the availability of real-time data.
  • Active Travel Fund - Nottingham City Council successfully bid for ?2m from the Government?s Active Travel Fund last year, and the council invited people to comment on proposals for a number of schemes. They include proposals to make permanent the trial closure to through traffic on Victoria Embankment, and to introduce a 20mph speed limit across the city centre. Additional schemes aim to deter cut-through traffic and create quieter, safer neighbourhoods?

These programmes will compliment the wide range of ongoing electric and green transport projects that are being rolled out across the city working towards Carbon Neutral Nottingham.? With this newsletter we aim to give you the latest on what is going on.??

E-Scooter Trial reaches 6 months landmark

Escooter

The E-Scooter Trial has hit the six month mark and as with any new and novel modes it hasn?t been without its challenges and the trial has presented us with opportunities for learning.?

Launched in late October, the 12-month trial is one of dozens taking place across the UK, backed and funded by the Government, as a way to unearth issues and find out how this emerging mode of transport could work, and should be governed, in the future.

Nottingham's on-street rental scheme has seen one of the highest usage of any in the country, and?has received a lot of positive feedback from key workers who have taken up the exclusive hire offer. However recurring issues of pavement riding and bad parking are requiring ongoing intervention and further measures to improve behaviour of some riders.?
