Friend,

As we observe Asian Pacific American Heritage Month this year, it is especially important to celebrate the achievements, history, and culture of our AAPI communities, friends, and neighbors, while also recognizing the violence they are facing.

Asian Americans in New York have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Rates of long-term unemployment are higher in AAPI communities than they are in general. There have been attacks against Asian Americans every day this month. And though violence against AAPI communities is not new, it's showing up in a new way and on a new scale this year.

But while it is important to acknowledge that systemic injustice, it is just as important to honor the accomplishments, strength, and legacy of those same communities.

I hope you’ll join me in celebrating our AAPI communities and working towards a more just future.

Best,
Nydia
