Hi Friend,

I hoped this day wouldn’t come, but it’s here. Right now, Texas Democrats are at the Capitol -- debating HB 6/SB 7.

As if Republicans’ awful voter suppression bills, HB 6 and SB 7, weren’t bad enough, now, they’re combining them into one even more horrifying bill -- behind closed doors, where they can cherry-pick the absolutely worst parts. There are so many things wrong with these bills, and so many reasons that Democrats have been fighting every way we know how to stop them from becoming law.

This is not just voter suppression -- it’s a terrifying nod to Jim Crow style voter intimidation. If the House passes either of these bills today, we will be one step closer to seeing thousands of Texans cut off from their right to make their voice heard at the polls -- especially people of color, voters with disabilities, and working Texans.

Friend, this is an attack on all of us. That’s why we’re fighting right now. And it’s why we’ll keep fighting, no matter what happens when the House votes today.

At every single step, our community has been there to try and stop these bills. Democrats in the Texas legislature have pulled all-nighters to try and block this. People have driven three, five, seven hours to testify in person. We are speaking with one voice, as Texans. And the entire country is listening -- even if Republicans are trying to drown us out.

We’ve been loud, tough, and true to our convictions. But if we’re going to block these bills, we need to get louder, tougher, and stand even stronger to defend our right to vote. Will you chip in $7 to our Voter Protection Fund right now?

It’s painful and infuriating to see Republicans attack our communities and think they can get away with it. But the thing is, they can’t -- because we won’t let them. Let’s keep pushing.

In solidarity,

Darcy Caballero
