For the first time ever, the powerful Treasury Select Committee wants to put the public’s questions
John, imagine you were face-to-face with the Governor of the Bank of England, what would you ask them?
For the first time ever, the powerful Treasury Select Committee wants to put the public’s questions directly to Governor Mark Carney - when they quiz him in Parliament this month. [1]
Big banks regularly bend the ears of our politicians and central bankers. This is a rare chance for them to hear what thousands of ordinary people on the street think about money and banking.
In the words of Interim Chair Catherine McKinnell MP; “the Treasury Committee wants to hear from you” [2] and the deadline to submit a question is 5pm this Tuesday 8th October.

The Bank of England is the UK’s most powerful economic institution and it has a duty to work in the public interest. But when its policies like quantitative easing and low interest rates have exacerbated inequality, a housing crisis and climate breakdown, it’s hard not to wonder who the Bank is really working for. [3]
This committee exists to scrutinise the Treasury and the Bank of England, but the very best way of holding powerful institutions to account is to open them up to the public. This is your chance to ask Carney and his staff some tough questions - and get your voice heard by policy-makers at the highest level.
Remember to include your name and where you’re from in your email or tweet, if you’d like those details to be read out if your question gets picked!
If thousands of supporters grab this opportunity and submit questions, it’d be an amazing display of people reclaiming democratic power over our money and banking system - just what Positive Money is all about!
