“US tobacco giant Reynolds American just spent $16 million in political donations as Biden seeks to ban menthol cigarettes”

The deluge of money from a Big Tobacco company shows how difficult it might be for Biden to restrict cigarettes”

We won't allow them to roll back our progress. Donate now to help fight back and save lives. >>

John,

Did you see the story in Insider yesterday? One tobacco company just spent $16 MILLION to fight back against the progress we’ve made.

And this news is no coincidence. It’s exactly what we expected to happen when our campaign to stop flavored tobacco started winning – wins we could not have achieved without supporters like you.

Now, as the FDA is finally moving to ban menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars, Big Tobacco is fighting back the best way they know how – with money.

And we need your help more than ever!

This effort is not just a transparent attempt to maintain Big Tobacco’s malicious control over our lungs and lives – it’s also a direct attack against Black communities, who have been disproportionately and predatorily targeted with menthol cigarettes. We’re fighting on multiple fronts to stave off Big Tobacco’s influence, but the FDA’s rulemaking procedures could take years, and we need grassroots contributions from supporters like you to fund our work.

Will you make a tax-deductible, monthly donation to help us mount a defense against Big Tobacco’s barrage of misinformation and keep pressure on the FDA to turn their decision into action? Every dollar makes a difference.

John, I can’t overstate the importance of this moment. If enacted, this policy would be the strongest action ever taken to put an end to Big Tobacco’s predatory marketing schemes and drive down the number of people who start smoking. It is a historic move to reverse the devastating toll on Black lives and restrict the tobacco industry’s ability to lure kids into nicotine addiction.

The tobacco industry knows this, and the massive amounts of money they’re spending to halt our progress will only increase from here. Your sustained involvement in our fight is crucial to making sure we can save lives, continue the fight for health equity, and keep kids safe from addiction.

Thank you for standing with us.

Sincerely,

Laurie Rubiner
