Thanks to the tireless advocacy and commitment to refugees from advocates like you, President Biden increased the refugee admissions cap on Monday, raising the ceiling to 62,500
from a historic low of 15,000.
Conservative evangelicals, law enforcement leaders, and others were among the wide spectrum of voices that urged Biden to increase the refugee ceiling. The decision to raise the ceiling was lauded by conservative and progressive leaders alike – underscoring the broad support and deep commitment to refugee resettlement from across the country.
We Welcome Refugees, a grassroots community of women "committed to living out Christlike hospitality for all God’s children", led a petition that garnered upwards of 5,000 responses, urging the administration to raise the historically low cap. Evangelical leaders also urged the president to raise the ceiling, and commended Monday’s announcement.
Law enforcement leaders also applauded the increase, pointing to the positive impact of refugee resettlement on local communities.
From refugee advocates to evangelical pastors to police chiefs, there is overwhelming support for refugees – and a willingness to welcome them into our local communities. The far-reaching support for the increase makes it clear that welcoming refugees isn’t a Democratic or Republican issue – it’s an American one.
Thanks for all you do for our immigrant and refugee neighbors,
