Katie Porter is one of the only single working mothers of young kids serving in Congress.

She understands what it’s like to have to balance work on top of childcare, school schedules, going to the grocery store, and so much more.

That’s why Katie has been a driving force on behalf of women who lost their jobs—disproportionately women of color—due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last December, Katie released a report showing that 1 in 5 women left the labor force in 2020–a shocking and distressing number.

Now, a new report shows that women lost $800 billion in income in 2020.

Here’s an undeniable fact: Policies like affordable childcare and flexible paid leave are not just for women. They are vital keys to rebuilding our post-COVID economy and they benefit every single person in our country. Not having these policies universally in place hurts women and hurts working families.

Having the voices of working moms in Congress helps uplift the unique challenges that working families face–challenges that are often forgotten when working parents aren't at the table.
