Hi John,

If you watched President Biden's address to Congress last week, you heard him tell transgender Americans “your president has your back.”

Our transgender community members too often find themselves under attack -- on the street, in the classroom, and in the legislature. That's why, despite support from the White House, we need to pass the Equality Act and solidify legal protections for one of the most vulnerable groups in the country.

I was proud to vote for the Equality Act for the second time this year and see this much-needed legislation passed in the House, despite the objections of the GOP. I even stood up to Marjorie Taylor Greene on the House floor when she tried to claim that the bill would detract from religious freedom. But these discriminatory arguments are resonating outside the halls of Congress and even among some of our voters here in PA-05.

You can always count on me to advocate for equal access in health care, employment, and housing for LGBTQ citizens, and I will oppose any attempt to use claims of “religious freedom” as an excuse to discriminate. I know many won't agree with me -- and Republicans will use my commitment to LGBTQ rights against me. But passing the Equality Act in the House and an acknowledgement from the president are just the first steps towards providing equality for those who are so frequently discriminated against.

I want to be able to keep up this fight in 2022 and beyond. But the Pennsylvania GOP is preparing to eliminate a congressional seat in our state, and they could throw a curveball my way, either by incorporating GOP strongholds into our district or forcing me to compete with other Democrats for this seat. We need to be prepared for anything, so I'm hoping I can count on your help today.

I need to keep up these fights for LGBTQ equality and civil rights in Pennsylvania. Will you give $10, $25, or whatever you can to help me ensure my team and I have the resources necessary to keep this district blue in 2022?

I hope I can count on you now. Please use this link to give here: [link removed]

I'm incredibly grateful for your support in this fight. I couldn't do this without you.

Mary Gay
