Communities & COVID-19

From the outset of the pandemic, key workers from across sectors have worked tirelessly in service to their communities, sustaining vital services, keeping people safe and the country functioning through crisis.

On Friday, 7th May – the final Jum’uah of the blessed month of Ramadan – we're calling on our Mosques, charities and community-led organisations and initiatives to participate in our ‘Thank You Key Workers’ national day of action and express thanks to our key workers through an act of service like providing hot food or refreshments to their local front line workers which maybe one of many groups or services.

Who is Classed as a Front-Line Key Worker?

Key workers include:
* NHS staff, health and social care staff including paramedics and other NHS staff

* Teachers, education professionals and others in education services
* Workers in food distribution and supply such as supermarkets and smaller food shops
* Local council and government workers
* Public safety and security staff such as the police, fire services etc.
* Transport workers such as bus/train services and other transport workers

* Utility, communication and key financial services including postal workers and other similar services

If You Haven't Already, GET INVOLVED!

To participate in this national day of action, we ask that your mosque, organisation or initiative:
1. Make contact with a local front line worker service in your locality as highlighted above

2. Plan for a few local volunteers or team members to arrange for hot food or other refreshments to be dropped off for front line worker service e.g. hot meals for healthcare workers to your local NHS Trust/hospital or a donation of goods to a local foodbank
3. Inform the MCB that you are participating, click on the red button below to complete the sign-up form
4. Post pictures of your act of service on social media at any time on Friday, 7th May, using the hashtag: #ThankYouKeyWorkers and tag the MCB. Find us on Twitter ([link removed]) , Facebook ([link removed]) and Instagram ([link removed]) .
