Hello John,
Did you know that routinely, California parents are stymied in their attempts to access what their children are being taught in one of the most sensitive areas of instruction—sexuality. California school districts routinely fail to provide the notices of upcoming sexual education required by law, make available only a portion of the curriculum, omit the mention of controversial speakers, and force parents to secure our legal representation in order to obtain information that should already be provided to them.
With your faithful support, for more than 20 years, PJI has advised and assisted countless parents in understanding their rights under the California Education Code and stay informed and involved with their children’s education.
But now, we are ready to take it a step further.
We are fully getting behind California Senate Bill 217. This bill would require the governing board of a school district to adopt a policy at a publicly noticed meeting specifying how parents and guardians of pupils may inspect the written and audiovisual educational materials used in comprehensive sexual health education. In addition, the meetings would address any new HIV prevention education, including updates or changes to present materials.
This is a bill that protects children and parents alike. Let California Governor Gavin Newsom know you support SB 217 by standing with PJI today..
