Dear Friend,

My name is Andrea Valdez Correa, and I am a member of ILCM's Board of Directors. I am also a DACA recipient. And it is both of these facts that compel me to write to you today. DACA has made a great difference in my life, and I can't imagine how my life would be without it. I hope that you will support both current DACA recipients and the many undocumented Minnesotans seeking to apply for the program by giving to ILCM through SpringForwardMN. Growing up in Apple Valley, I was never able to feel secure in my future. As an immigrant, you are always afraid that any missteps will negatively impact the rest of your life. We had heard of many people seeking help with immigration issues who were ultimately taken advantage of or given false information. But then my mother and I heard from a neighbor about a program called DACA, and an organization that could help with my application. As the knowledgeable and professional staff worked with my mother in Spanish, she felt comforted by their sincere efforts to explain legal complexities and ensure her understanding. ILCM was that safe place.

Thanks to ILCM, I received the support I needed to apply for and receive DACA status. This not only gave me the opportunity to attend college, but also to get a job and the driver's license I needed to get between my home, school, and work. This enabled me to pay my way through school while also supporting my family. I am now the first one in my family with a bachelor's degree, and it feels like such a relief knowing my siblings and cousins have a path to do this as well. DACA, and ILCM's support, has changed my life. It is a key part of my success, my family's success, and the success of my community. Many of my neighbors have asked ILCM for assistance with the program, and their children also have the opportunity to attend college as a result.

Your support will ensure that ILCM can continue to be there for DREAMers like me. And, thanks to the $10,000 match provided by generous donors, your impact can be doubled. Together we can help protect our fellow Minnesotans from deportation and give them access to the same opportunities that have been so impactful for me.

In solidarity,

Andrea Valdez Correa
