Derek Chauvin was convicted for the murder of George Floyd and many across the country breathed sighs of relief. Some were happy to see their idea of justice served, others were glad the boarded windows of their local Arbys were safe until the next police killing, but those most relieved were liberal politicians. With Chauvin convicted the system was vindicated, long-awaited accountability had arrived, and no deeper contemplation of policing was needed.
