Thanks to your support in April, we were able to exceed our goal! We know that next year our members will face extremely tough reelection challenges, so hitting our numbers and staying competitive is critical as we continue building momentum to hold onto our Democratic House Majority!
To kick off the month, we want to share an inside look at some key races and pick up opportunities for Democrats on the horizon:
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee recently released 21 key pickup opportunities and one open seat. These include:
AZ-02 (open), AZ-06, CA-21, CA-25, CA-39, CA-48, FL-26, FL-27, IA-01, IA-02, IN-05, MO-02, NE-02, NY-02, NY-22, NY-24, OH-01, PA-01, PA-10, TX-23, TX-24, UT-04.
Of these districts:
- NINE are Republican-held districts that President Biden carried in 2020 – clear pickup opportunities.
- NewDem Action Fund supported a candidate or sitting Member of Congress in all but FIVE of these districts last year.
- EIGHT were held by Democrats in 2020, while the rest were red-to-blue districts where Democrats came up short.
- So far, only ONE of the former Members (Harley Rouda in CA-48) is running to reclaim their seat, but others have publicly stated their interest.
No doubt, redistricting will play a significant role in this campaign cycle, and by no means is this the end-all-be-all of places where Democrats can make a competitive push to pick up seats.
What’s clear, however, is that with a razor-thin margin in the House, a defense-only strategy isn’t enough. Dems need to play some offense, and we have several districts on our radar that could be key to helping us hold and even widen our majority in the House next year.
Thank you again for your incredible support last month. We’ll be in touch with more updates soon.
