Friend: The Supreme Court just announced that they will soon take up a case challenging a longstanding gun safety law in New York. If this law is struck down, gun owners could be allowed to carry concealed weapons as they move through their daily lives without any justification or reason beyond their wish to ... and without their fellow citizens knowing that there is a weapon primed for harm and danger in their midst. Shootings now occur in grocery stores, restaurants, places of worship, concert venues. Increasing the number of concealed guns permitted in public spaces has dire consequences for gun violence in America – at a time when gun violence is already at an unacceptable level, with greater than 150 mass shootings perpetrated in the first 4 months of this year alone.

This is the first major gun ruling since 2010, and the first to be made under the Court's expanded conservative majority. The urgency for congressional action has never been clearer: Federal gun laws must be passed so that a conservative court cannot impede lifesaving progress.

But the only pathway for meaningful Congressional action on gun safety is through eliminating the Senate filibuster. So I'm asking 500 more people – including you, Friend – to sign my petition calling for the end of the filibuster. I need your signature before 11:59 p.m., so please don't wait.

Friend, last week, horrid gun violence once again ripped through our communities and senselessly took more innocent lives.

After each deadly shooting in this country, my Republican colleagues offer "thoughts and prayers" – then turn around and obstruct the commonsense gun safety reforms that would actually save lives. This past week alone, there were six separate incidents across our nation. This is my message to Senate Republicans: Your refusal to act is the reason these tragedies continue. We need more than your thoughts and prayers. We need action. Now.

I've been fighting alongside my Democratic colleagues to pass legislation that would bring real, lifesaving change – legislation like background checks and a ban on assault weapons. But as long as the filibuster exists, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans will be able to stop every bill in its tracks.

That's why I'm calling on the Senate to abolish the filibuster so we can finally bypass the GOP's despicable obstructionism and make gun safety reform a reality, and I need 10,000 people to speak out alongside me by midnight tonight to make it happen.
