The Trudeau government is expanding the government’s power to regulate what you post or watch online and we need your help to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Through Bill C-10, an update to the Broadcasting Act, the government wants to give unelected bureaucrats in Ottawa the power to regulate online content. It could hit everything from news outlets to social media posts.

This could have huge implications for free speech and your ability to hold politicians accountable online.

For example, if you take issue with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax and post a video on YouTube, will your video be regulated or prevented from being shared?

If you question why there’s so many bureaucrats in Ottawa, will Ottawa’s bureaucrats be tempted to flag your Facebook post?

The government shouldn’t be able to tell you how you can hold the government accountable.

Canadians should be worried about Trudeau leaving the door open for federal bureaucrats to regulate online content and limit your ability to hold politicians accountable.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation will always fight measures that weaken government accountability. And the former commissioner of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is also speaking out. Here’s what he said ([link removed]) about Bill C-10:

“Granting a government agency authority over legal user generated content — particularly when backed up by the government’s musings about taking down websites — doesn’t just infringe on free expression, it constitutes a full-blown assault upon it and, through it, the foundations of democracy.”

We need your help to make sure Trudeau doesn’t limit your right to free speech and to hold the government accountable.
