After being soundly defeated in 2020, Republicans are wasting no time preparing campaigns for 2024. We're little more than 100 days into Joe Biden's presidency, but former vice president Mike Pence is already barnstorming the country to bolster his chances of winning the White House in 4 years.
Last week, Pence spoke to the Palmetto Family Council, an organization that champions “biblical values” in government and that has long supported him. This visit is particularly notable because the PFC is located in South Carolina, a key early state in the presidential contest.
Mike Pence is a dangerous and formidable opponent that Democrats need to keep an eye on.
He is the candidate who is currently most likely to win the Republican primary. Several polls have shown him leading an extremely crowded field of radical Republicans, so we've got to be ready if he wins.
And we've seen that Pence can wield all the hatred at the heart of the Trump agenda without the rough edges that defined President Trump. We saw it in 2020 -- Pence was able to rattle off racist, nativist Trump talking points calmly and without a hint of shame.
He is not an opponent to be underestimated.
We can do our part in 2022 by expanding Democratic majorities, depriving Pence of allies in office and showing the American people what progressive policies can do to improve their lives.
