¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo, John!

It is important to remember what Cinco de Mayo is not. It is not Mexican Independence Day. It is not about sombreros, ponchos, burritos, and margaritas. It is not about trivializing Mexican culture.

On this day in 1862, the Mexican army, outmanned and outgunned, beat the odds and defeated the invading French army at the Battle of Puebla.

Every day, while I walk the halls of Congress as the first Mexican congressman from the Midwest, I honor this victory. I’m standing up for our beliefs and fighting for what is right, no matter how powerful my opponents may be. From reforming immigration policies to fighting to protect workers’ rights, I’m taking on Republicans and any Democrat who may stand in the way.

So please, I’m asking you today to donate just $5 before midnight tonight to help me fight to pass progressive legislation to give working and immigrant families a chance to thrive, not just survive. Donate now >>>

Even after four years of the Trump Administration’s xenophobia and fear-mongering, our communities are standing strong — because we know the power of standing up for our beliefs, no matter the odds.

Today is about representing our Mexican roots with honor and pride. Join me in celebrating Cinco de Mayo and stand up for what we all believe in: a progressive movement that puts immigrant and working families first. Donate $5 now to push our progressive movement forward in Congress >>>
